Conservative Party - the day I resigned
I resigned today (17th September 2001) as a member of the Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party, following the election of Iain Duncan Smith on 13th September 2001 as Leader of the Conservative Party. After taking the time over the weekend since his election to consider the matter fully, including studying the composition of the new Shadow Cabinet, I am now convinced it is pointless for me to remain a member. Should the policies of the Conservative Party be revisited, resulting in it abandoning its anti-homosexual and prejudiced policies, then I will be anxious to rejoin. Meantime I shall remain outside the Party. I have no plans to join any other Party.
